A tense encounter of US aid to Ukraine President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House erupted into a fierce exchange that triggered the emergence of a wave of encouragement for Ukraine from world leaders across Europe. Zelenskyy has left Washington DC early following the disagreement, was swiftly supported by European allies, who reiterated their Ukrainian leadership support for Zelensky as it fights the conflict with Russia.
Trump has claimed Zelenskyy for "disrespecting America" in a Truth Social post minutes after their exchange.
European officials support for Ukraine
EU Head of the Foreign Policy Kaja Kallas was among the first to take action by pledging to boost assistance. “We're adding our support to Ukraine in order to help them keep fighting against the raider." she wrote on X. The post also stated, "The free world needs a new leader," noting that Europe should rise to the challenges.
Germany's Chancellor- in- waiting, Friedrich Merz, also raised his solidarity, stating," Our commitment to Ukraine remains loyal, in both good times and delicate moments." The Chancellor who's leaving office Olaf Scholz echoed this sentiment by writing" Ukraine can be assured of Germany as well as Europe."
French Presidency of France Emmanuel Macron made it clear what he believed, stating, "There is one attacker: Russia. One person is who is being attacked: Ukraine." His remarks were made during a conversation to journalists in Portugal and then reiterated later on X.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European leaders support Ukraine, echoed the sentiment by addressing Zelenskyy specifically in her tweet on X. "Your dignity is a tribute to the courage that is Ukrainians," she wrote. Be strong, courageous Be fearless," she wrote, offering continued cooperation to "a peaceful and sustainable peace."
